EVALUATION

The evaluation will be focused on the following items:
1.) Glossary (See previous post)
2.) Preliminary design (Planning your own site - Preparing the design comp)
3.) Publishing your own site
4.) Blogger development.
5.) Table-based layout vs CSS based design discussion.

GLOSSARY
First off, you'll do a glossary of web design terminology. Every concept have to be defined in a single paragraph, include one example, and must include the following terms:

  • Domain name.
  • Frames (HTML).
  • FTP.
  • Home page.
  • Hosting.
  • HTML.
  • Image map.
  • IP.

  • Meta tag.
  • Mouseover.
  • Perl.
  • PHP.
  • Script.
  • Scripting language.
  • search engine.
  • Server.
  • Spider.
  • SSI.
  • Sub-domain name.
  • Tag.
  • Template.
  • Traffic.
  • URI.
  • URL.
  • W3C.
  • WWW.
PRELIMINARY DESIGN ACTIVITIES
  1. Planning your own website and use Powerpoint to sketch it. Save the file as planning.ppt and send it to me: juan549@yahoo.com
  2. Create/download files (Images, video, audio, text) for your site.
  3. Organize files in a site. (USB memory or Remote Folder - Sitesled).
  4. Sketch out a piece of comprehensive artwork (also known as a “comp”) for each page of the website.
  5. Answer the following questions in order to do the best design:
  • What kind of website are you going to do.
  • Why are you going to do this website.
  • Who will be your focuses persons. (public)
  • When will you do this (Chronogram)
  • How will you do this
  • What will you need (Images, video, text, etc)
  • Which will be your estimated costs. (domain, host)
  • Where will you host your website (sitesled address)

PUBLISHING YOUR OWN SITE

  • Create an account in a free hosting server (i.e. http://www.sitesled.com/)
  • Upload your index.html page to the root directory (home)
  • Send me the URL of your website, ej: colegio.sitesled.com.

REMEMBER: It is very important that your home page be called index.html. Otherwise, the page will not load by default!!

TABLE-BASED LAYOUT VS CSS BASED DESIGN DISCUSSION

  1. Read the article, and answer the following questions:
  • •What structural markup troubles does my website have?
    •What will be the redesigns in order to correct this?
    •What advantages will this have?
    •How will it affect the search engines?
    •How will you implement the nav bars?
